چکیده

Background: Gentisic acid has been reported to show neuroprotective effect. But its effect on depression is not available in the literature. So we evaluated of this compound depressive behavior unstressed (normal) mice and stressed mice. Materials Methods: Swiss albino male were given unpredictable mild stressors for twenty-one consecutive days produce behavior. (25, 50, 100 mg/kg) fluoxetine (20 administered orally days. Depressive was detected by tail suspension test sucrose preference test. After behavioral testing, biochemical estimations performed plasma brain. Histopathological studies brain also performed. Results: Immobility time remarkably decreased gentisic (50 mg/kg). restored subjected stress paradigm. It lowered concentration nitrite, monoamine oxidase- A, malondialdehyde, TNF-α; increased catalase GSH normal corticosterone indicated protection against hyperchromatic nuclei Conclusion: produced remarkable antidepressant The possible mechanisms observed might be through inhibition MAO-A, amelioration neuroinflammation oxidative stress; Moreover, lowering concentration.

Antidepressant-like activity of ellagic acid in unstressed and acute immobilization-induced stressed mice.

BACKGROUND The aim of present study was to evaluate antidepressant-like activity of ellagic acid in Swiss young male albino mice; and to explore the possible underlying mechanisms for this activity. METHODS Mice were immobilized for 150 min once only for induction of stress. Ellagic acid (8.75, 17.5, 35 mg/kg, po) and fluoxetine (20 mg/kg, ip) per se were administered to unstressed and stress...

Behavioral and Biochemical Evidences for Antidepressant-Like Activity of Celastrus Paniculatus Seed Oil in Mice

Introduction: Celastrus paniculatus seed oil, commonly known as Malkangni or Jyotishmati, was in use from time immemorial to treat brain related disorders. Celastrus paniculatus seed oil has significant antidepressant-like activity in chronic unpredictable stressed mice. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the antidepressant-like effect of Celastrus paniculatus seed oil ...

Stressed and Unstressed Pronouns: Complementary Preferences

I present a unified account of interpretation preferences of stressed and unstressed pronouns in discourse. The central intuition is the Complementary Preference Hypothesis that predicts the interpretation preference of a stressed pronoun from that of an unstressed pronoun in the same discourse position. The base preference must be computed in a total pragmatics module including commonsense pre...

Differential effects of nitric oxide synthase inhibitors on anxiety in unstressed and stressed mice.

Effects of selective nitric oxide synthase (NOS) inhibitors, 7-nitroindazole (7-NI), a selective inhibitor of neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) and aminoguanidine (AG), a selective inhibitor of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) on anxiety in unstressed and stressed mice were investigated using elevated plus maze (EPM) test and light-dark test (LDT). 7-NI (20 and 40 mg/kg, ip) produced ...

PHARMACOLOGICAL EVALUATI ON OF MEDICINAL PLANTS FOR THEIR ANALGESIC ACTIVITY IN MICE

The selected parts of four medicinal plants, Achillea millefolium, Hibiscus rosasinensis, Linum usitatissimum and Pluchea lanceolata were extracted in absolute methanol to determine their analgesic activity. Analgesic activity was assessed on intact mice by tail flick latency via the tail immersion method. The analgesic activities of these plant extracts were compared with acetylsalicylic a...
